The term "global village" is actually overused, but not, I think, without reason. Technological improvements truly have shrunk the planet, and it is certainly not strange to find citizens of one country living and doing work in another, usually literally on the other side of the world, far away from the comforts of the known...no Cadbury's or Earl Grey to be discovered for hundreds of miles!

Transportation is more comfortable, and as the years and technology have progressed, the whole idea of "borders" has increasingly become more a comfort than a complication to trade, or to people today literally moving about the globe following financial or other hobbies. These days, the concept of a "global citizen" is becoming a lot more well known, and if the long term trend continues, then the entire idea of the "nation" may become an useless construct.

Granted, that day is probably still awhile off, but at this moment, it is easy to see how such a thing could appear. We really are becoming a global village, and while that might make several people uneasy (and absolutely terrify just a few other people), on the whole, my sense of it is that this is a wonderful thing.

One important thing remains true however. No matter who you are, or where you're from, or how much time you've been away, sooner or later, nearly everybody finds themselves longing for a taste of their home. Maybe you had a favorite blend of tea you enjoyed when you lived in your home country (Earl Grey, anybody?). Or a favorite kind of snacks that your new home actually doesn't carry (or even know that it is available). Nostalgia could be a strong force, and when it hits, it's nice to know that modern technology can assist you in satisfying those cravings.

There are many websites out there that meet the needs of the needs and desires of certain regions, and these sites are full of country (or place) particular goodies that will offer you just the taste of home you're seeking. Therefore if, as an illustration, you're a British ExPat living in some far flung place, and you all of a sudden find yourself longing for a steaming cup of Earl Grey tea, have no fear! A source is only a few mouse clicks away, and it can be provided right to your front door, regardless of where in the world you choose to live.
